New malware asks AI models to rank victims by their worth
Cisco Talos found a Windows infostealer, VOLTA, that sends stolen data such as passwords, cookies and saved payment cards to commercial AI models, by default Anthropic's Claude, to profile each victim and rank them by how much money they could bring in. If one model refuses, it switches to another.
Why it matters: Criminals now use AI to decide who is worth targeting, which makes stolen logins more dangerous. Keep passwords in a proper password manager rather than the browser, and change passwords and sign out of sessions quickly if a device is infected.

Fixed flaw let a shared ChatGPT link read private chats
Security firm Parameter found that a malicious ChatGPT share link could run an attacker's code in the signed-in session of anyone who opened it, letting it read their private conversations. OpenAI fixed the flaw by October 26, eight days after it was reported, and Parameter reported no real-world attacks.
Why it matters: Shared AI chat links are a new way in for attackers, just like links in email. Treat unexpected shared chats with the same care as unexpected attachments, and keep sensitive client data out of chats you might share.

46% of holiday shoppers plan to compare prices using AI
In a survey of 1,099 US consumers for the Electronic Transactions Association and TSG, 46% said they plan to use AI tools to compare prices, but only 23% would let AI complete a purchase for them.
